What is Kernlux Development Labs?
We are a small software studio that builds the apps a Linux desktop is missing: a dock, a browser, an app store, an uninstaller, a backup tool and our own desktop, otto OS. Every app is built, tested and checked before it ships.
Are your apps free?
The apps on this site are free to use. Each app page shows its licence, and we will say clearly on the page if anything ever changes.
What apps do you make?
SnapDock (a next-generation dock), Otto Browser, Omarchy Store, Jettison (a universal uninstaller), Lifeboat (desktop backup), Rabbit Ears (free live TV) and Marquee Socials. See them all on the apps page.
How do I download or install an app?
Each app page will have its install steps. Until the downloads are live on this site, leave your email through the contact page and we will tell you the moment an app is ready.
Apps and otto OS
What is otto OS and can I download it?
otto OS is our own Linux desktop that looks after itself: it finds safe drivers, takes a restore point before every change, explains scripts before they run and heals common problems. It is in testing and is not available to download yet. See the otto OS page.
Will otto OS run on my computer?
otto OS is built to run well on modest and older computers too. Its hardware doctor identifies your machine and picks safe drivers. Because it is still in testing, we are checking real machines one at a time. Tell us what you have on the contact page.
I am coming from Windows or Mac. Is this for me?
Yes, that is who we build for. Our apps aim to feel familiar from the first minute and every change can be undone, so you can explore without fear of breaking things.
Can I undo changes or remove an app cleanly?
Yes. otto OS takes a restore point before every change, and Jettison removes apps from any source, including their leftover settings and caches, with an undo.
Safety and privacy
Are you part of Omarchy or 37signals?
No. Kernlux Development Labs is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by 37signals or the Omarchy project. Omarchy is a registered trademark of 37signals LLC. We credit the projects we build on on our credits page.
How do you check that software is safe?
We check the licence, make sure the project is real and maintained, read install scripts line by line, test it on our systems and re-check on a schedule. The full list is on How we verify. When in doubt, we leave it out.
Do you collect my data?
These websites use no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. If you message us, we use your message only to reply. Each app explains what it does with data on its own page.
How do I report a security problem?
Email security@kernlux.com with what you found and how to reproduce it. Our security page explains what to expect.
Is this chat a person or an AI?
This assistant is automated. It answers from our FAQ, runs in your browser, does not send what you type anywhere and does not remember you. For anything it cannot answer, use the contact page to reach a person.
Help and contact
Can I suggest an app or theme?
Yes. Send the name, the source link and the licence through the contact page. We check every suggestion the same way as everything else.
Where do I get help with an app?
Start with the docs on kernlux.com. If you are still stuck, write to us on the contact page and tell us which app and version you are using.
I am writing about Kernlux. Where are the logos?
Our logo files, colours and usage rules are on the brand kit. For questions, use the contact page.
